Our Servant Leaders

Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. - 1 Peter 5:2-3

We believe that the Bible instructs us to raise up servant leaders from the resources God has given us. Multiple elders serve the church best by leading in spiritual matters. The body of deacons lead the church best by serving in practical matters.
Here are some of our God-given servant leaders.

Bill Klear

Pastor
In the Autumn of 2019, Pastor Bill and his family were called to serve at ODBC, where 1 Corinthians 9:16 is foundational to Bill's ministry. They are missionaries at heart and enjoy hiking, movies, and chess. Learn more  about our pastor here

Earl Boyd

Elder
Earl began attending ODBC in 1985 and became an elder in 2001. If he is not helping Karen with the garden, you will likely find him spending time with his family on the boat!

Bill Jenkins

Deacon
Bill and Brenda were married at ODBC on a Friday in 2012 and joined the church the following Sunday! Bill once captained the Hammock Beach State Park ferry and enjoys listening to and playing guitar. He became a Deacon of Open Door Baptist Church in 2016.

JJ Johnson

Deacon
.

Walter Kittrell

Deacon
Walter has been attending ODBC since 2019 with his wife Pattie. He enjoys boating and mountain adventures with family and friends and is a retired auto parts business owner of 54 years serving his community and church. Walter's favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:28, knowing that his love for God and experiencing His call in all circumstances and trials is the Lord's working all things for his good and God’s glory!

Mac Thompson

Deacon

Harry Watson

Elder
Harry and Nancy actually began watching Open Door Baptist Church worship services online during the 2020 Covid quarantine. Not long after restrictions were lifted, Nancy was volunteering her gifts at the piano, and Harry became an Elder in 2023. His favorite Bible verse is Romans 5:1, and he is thrilled to how to have peace with God through Jesus Christ!

Liz Winfree

Ministry Assistant
Liz moved from Alaska back to the Crystal Coast and became the Ministry Assistant in the office at ODBC in mid-2020. Jeremiah 29:11 has encouraged Liz to prosper in God's love and nearness.
